About the Work
This is on the beach in Santa Monica, California where I run. Very low waves that day. I like the smooth transitions, between the sand and the ocean in the foreground, and between the ocean and the sky in the distance. It seems the lower the waves, the smoother the beach. The scene just struck me, and I had to take a picture.

You’re in cages of one sort or another. We all are. All the time. The cages might be physical, mental, conceptual, social, etc. and on and on. The cages might be chosen by us, or they might be constraints we can’t change. Often both. Often we’re in multiple cages simultaneously.

Since we are in these cages, we might as well make our lives as engaging and stimulating as possible. Of course, this may also entail testing the limits of those cages. Or seeking to evolve those cages.

There’s a ted.com video about happiness, which talks about how, when we are faced with a difficult and unchangeable situation, our brains are perhaps wired to help us be happy with, and face, that situation. Acknowledging the fact of our cages seems to be similar. Both knowing about the cages, and that even if we’re seeking to change our cages, knowing that those changes will lead to other cages of different sorts, weirdly, oddly, seems to make me happier.

The New York Times digital subscription people must be very tired. It’s not some great rate on the first eight weeks I care about, but rather the regular rate after that. And that regular rate is both too high and too fixed. I wish they would try a proxri approach.

People sleep, but as a whole, humanity never sleeps. It seems obvious. It seems banal. I don’t think it’s trivial.

It’s amazing the Smart Car gas mileage isn’t better than it is. They get in the range of 34-38 MPG. Seems like a car that small should get 50-60 MPG, doesn’t it? I mean, come on!

Here are the numbers.

Worked my field rep job. It included an interesting conference call, a productive meeting, a bunch of phone calls, and a personal visit in the field.

Ate my Subway sandwich inside Starbucks! Along with a coffee of course.

Continued reading an interesting Fast Company article about thriving amid chaos.

Listened to the awesome variety-oriented music stream called Do or DIY on the WFMU app on my phone.

Explored a kosher deli, and another restaurant with Mexican food called MexiKosher.

Spent a decent amount of time in natural sunlight. Always good for the mood and the brain.

Happened to walk by a RadioShack. Popped in and got a universal remote for the TV, which I’ve been thinking about getting for like six months.

Tried out my new Skechers Shape-ups shoes at home.

Worked out.

Worried about my lack of health insurance.

Watched some more of That Hamilton Woman.

Tweaked my new ProxThink business cards, adding a new special offer.
